Faculty of Pharmacy
The Faculty of Pharmacy was established as a part of Masaryk University in Brno in 1952. In 1960 it was merged with the existing Faculty of Pharmacy in Bratislava. The modern history is then connected with the current University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, from which the Faculty of Pharmacy separated in 2020 and became part of Masaryk University again.
The buildings of the Faculty of Pharmacy are located in the campus of the University of Veterinary Sciences in Brno - Královo Pole. Although this is a strategic location in Brno, students and academic staff lack closer connections with thematically close faculties such as the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Medicine. The Faculty also faced capacity constraints, which would be a problem in the future given the plans of the Faculty management to expand the range of study programmes significantly.
MORE ABOUT THE FACULTY OF PHARMACY
-
Strategy and future of the Faculty
The BioPharma Hub project represents a major investment into the future of the Faculty of Pharmacy. At the same time, it is an important strategic step towards its integration into the structure of Masaryk University. The construction of a high-tech building within the University campus in Brno - Bohunice will provide the Faculty of Pharmacy with modern, timeless, spatially and technologically generous premises for educational and research activities of students and teachers.
-
Premises not only for collaboration and sharing within the University
By 2026, the Faculty of Pharmacy should move into the new building completely. This will bring it closer to the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and CEITEC, with which it is thematically closely linked. Space for inter-faculty cooperation, sharing research knowledge and technological equipment will thus be created.
-
Equipment for cooperation with pharmaceutical companies
Laboratories are planned in the basement of the new building to facilitate the process of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). This will allow the Faculty to produce smaller certified batches of medicinal products for collaborating pharmaceutical companies. So the students of the Faculty of Pharmacy will gain experience in manufacturing of actual medicinal products.
-
Capacity and future employment of students
Last but not least, the Faculty of Pharmacy will be able to offer new study programmes responding to the current situation on the labour market and to admit a larger number of students into the first years than it has done so far.
